Feeling anxious? Stressing about a particular work assignment? Everyone can relate. But there’s no need for prescription medication. There are plenty of herbal remedies out there for you. They’re all natural, with added benefits, and a low cost. Here are several that might do the trick.
Chamomile
Chamomile is one of the most common ingredients in herbal tea in the United States and is widely known to help ease anxiety. It can be taken in capsule form, and in tea. Some added benefits are the alleviation of stomach aches, and relief of heartburn. It’s so popular, that people have been using chamomile to calm down for thousands of years.
Lavender
Lavender is another common herb; the flower itself and its oil are used in medicine. Taking the oil by mouth daily can relieve restlessness and nervousness. It can also be added to bathwater to ease stress and improve overall mental well-being. Lavender is also a popular herb in cooking, so try sprinkling some of the dried flowers in your next soup or salad to see what all of the fuss is about.
Passion Flower
Passion Flower is often used in medicine. Studies have shown that the plant is particularly helpful for those with insomnia and generalized anxiety disorder. It’s also a very useful in relieving nausea. These studies, which we covered a few weeks ago, show that Passion Flower can be as effective as prescription drugs when it comes to cutting through anxious feelings and helping users calm down.
Kava
Kava is a South Pacific plant whose root is used for medicine. Its extract has been shown to relieve anxiety, and perhaps work as well as some prescription anti-anxiety medication. Kava is popular because of the warm, all-over body buzz that it gives its users.
Hops
While hops are used in brewing beer and skin creams, it has surprising mental health benefits when used on its own. The dried flower part of the plant is used in medicine, and can help ease anxiety, insomnia, and even attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Hops have also been proven to improve appetite and stomach cramps.
Kratom
Kratom gives its users a sense of peace and calm similar to opiates, although it’s not habit forming. Kratom is becoming very popular in the treatment of anxiety. You can find different kinds of kratom on the market, but we prefer the red-veined kratom from Indonesia to treat anxiety.
